Material Aesthetics Meets Flexibility – The Future of Modern Wall Design
For decades, authentic concrete surfaces meant heavy formwork, days of troweling, or massive concrete slabs. Anyone who wanted the authentic character of mineral-based materials had to put up with the time, mess, and high costs involved.
Today, it’s much easier to create the same material effects. Modern mineral wall coverings combine the authentic aesthetic of natural materials with a flexibility that opens up entirely new possibilities for architects, interior builders, and designers.
This is exactly where Wall Rapture combines two qualities that have long been considered opposites: the authentic aesthetic of real materials and maximum flexibility. Our mineral wall coverings blend the look and feel of real materials with a level of craftsmanship that opens up new possibilities for architects, interior designers, and private homeowners.

Was versteht man unter Materialästhetik?
Material aesthetics describes the effect that genuine materials have on people. It is not just about the appearance of a surface, but about the interplay of texture, tactile quality, light, and the natural depth of the material. Only when a surface not only looks like concrete or rust but also feels like it does an authentic spatial experience emerge.
Unlike printed decorative surfaces or plastic panels, mineral-based materials have a vibrant appearance. Their appearance changes depending on the time of day and the angle of the light: small indentations cast subtle shadows, different textures reflect light naturally, and each surface develops its own unique character. It is precisely these details that make rooms appear more refined, serene, and at the same time more expressive.
The aesthetics of materials include, among other things:
- Light Reflection: Mineral surfaces refract and reflect light in different ways, thereby creating a natural sense of depth.
- Surface texture: Pores, cavities, trowel marks, or subtle relief patterns give each surface its own unique character.
- Tactile Quality: Authentic materials are not only pleasing to the eye, but also invite you to touch them. Their tactile texture conveys a sense of quality and authenticity.
- Spatial depth: Irregular surfaces create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, making the walls appear more three-dimensional.
- Naturalness: Minor variations in color, texture, and surface are not flaws, but rather make each surface one-of-a-kind.
This material aesthetic is becoming increasingly important, especially in modern architecture. Hotels, restaurants, offices, and high-end residential spaces deliberately opt for authentic materials because they evoke emotions and give spaces a sense of identity. While a printed concrete look often appears flat and artificial, a genuine mineral surface develops a depth and presence that is immediately apparent—often quite subconsciously.
Wall Rapture’s mineral wall coverings create exactly this experience. Real concrete, rust, or textured surfaces combine the natural look of artisanal materials with flexible installation. The result is surfaces that not only look like real materials, but also authentically convey their character, texture, and atmosphere into modern interior designs.
Why the Aesthetics of Materials Are More Important Today Than Ever Before
People want to experience spaces—not just look at them. That is why surfaces with genuine texture and a natural feel are becoming increasingly important.
While printed wallpaper or plastic surfaces merely imitate a certain look, mineral surfaces create a completely different atmosphere in a room. Light is reflected differently, textures can be felt, and each surface takes on its own character.
Wall Rapture finishes create walls that look like poured concrete or naturally formed materials—but are much easier to install.
Flexible wall paneling instead of heavy building materials
Exposed concrete is considered a design classic. However, its implementation often involves a great deal of effort:
- heavy materials
- complex substructures
- long construction periods
- Dirt and dust on the construction site
- high costs
Our mineral wall panels take a different approach.
Thanks to their thin profile—only about 1 mm thick—they remain flexible and can be installed just like high-quality wall cladding. This creates an authentic concrete look without the typical drawbacks of solid building materials.
Mineral Surfaces for Virtually Any Application
The flexibility of our material opens up applications that would be virtually impossible to achieve with traditional concrete slabs.
Our surfaces are suitable for, among other things:
- Living Spaces
- Kitchens
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Offices
- Retail Store Design
- Exhibition Booths
- Furniture Paneling
- Doors
- Reception Desks
- TV Walls
- Custom Interior Fit-outs
Even curves, edges, or complex shapes can be designed with ease.
This creates a consistent design language throughout the entire space.
International Projects with Wall Rapture – Mineral Surfaces in Use Around the World
Today, mineral wall cladding must do much more than just look good. International brands expect consistent quality, quick installation times, and a material aesthetic that underscores their brand identity. That is precisely why Wall Rapture surfaces are now used worldwide in showrooms, hotels, offices, trade show booths, and exclusive retail design projects. Every project has different requirements—but what they all have in common is a desire for authentic materials and cost-effective implementation.
Audi AG – Progressive Retail on an International Level
On behalf of Audi AG, Wall Rapture is to design the approximately 600 m² exhibition booth at Auto China in Beijing using the surface Concrete Standard . The goal was to create a minimalist, architectural material palette that directs attention entirely to the vehicles. The authentic exposed concrete look underscores Audi’s progressive design language and creates a high-end atmosphere without burdening the booth construction with heavy concrete components. Thanks to its light weight and ease of installation, large surfaces could be efficiently implemented—a key advantage for international trade show projects with tight schedules. As a result, the concept is now an integral part of the design in all Audi dealerships.
Bugatti – When Furniture Looks Like It’s Made of Solid Concrete
For Bugatti, the mineral surfaces were not used on walls but rather in high-end furniture construction. The flexible surfaces were laminated onto MDF and HDF core boards and then processed using edge-processing machines. This creates pieces of furniture with a consistent concrete look, where traditional ABS edges are no longer visible. The result is cabinet fronts and furniture that are virtually indistinguishable from solid concrete—both visually and to the touch—while being significantly lighter and much easier to manufacture.
Loewe – Premium Design Meets Authentic Materials
For the renowned consumer electronics manufacturer Loewe, the back panel of a designer OLED TV was finished with a genuine mineral concrete surface. The combination of cutting-edge technology, minimalist design, and authentic material aesthetics creates an extraordinary design object. The subtle concrete texture underscores the brand’s premium appeal and impressively demonstrates that mineral surfaces are no longer limited to walls but can also enhance high-quality product designs.
BMW – Renovation of a Car Dealership with a Concrete Look
For BMW Cyran, an existing showroom was redesigned using Wall Rapture’s mineral concrete surfaces. The authentic exposed concrete look creates a calm, high-end setting for the vehicles and complements the minimalist design of modern automotive architecture. Thanks to the material’s thin profile, existing surfaces could be efficiently modernized without the need for extensive renovation work. The project demonstrates how existing buildings can be quickly and cost-effectively transformed into modern brand environments.

Several years ago, the boutique fitness studio John & Janes was designed using Wall Rapture’s concrete surfaces. The industrial design concept—which was extraordinary at the time—still looks modern and timeless today. Authentic concrete surfaces, clean lines, and high-quality materials create an atmosphere that deliberately sets it apart from traditional gyms. The project demonstrates just how enduring good design can be and why mineral surfaces retain their impact even years later.
World-renowned watch brand – precision down to the smallest detail
Wall Rapture was commissioned by a world-renowned Swiss luxury watch brand to supply high-quality mineral surfaces for exclusive interior design and display areas. In an industry where precision, material quality, and perfection are top priorities, the surfaces used also had to meet the highest design standards.
The authentic concrete look creates a deliberately minimalist backdrop that directs the focus entirely onto the timepieces on display. At the same time, the mineral textures lend the spaces depth, a sense of quality, and timeless elegance. Thanks to the flexible application process, the surfaces could also be used on custom-made furniture and architectural fixtures. The project impressively demonstrates that the true aesthetic of a material doesn’t have to be flashy—but rather wins people over through understated elegance and the highest quality.
Trust through real projects, not just empty promises
Whether it’s international automakers, premium fashion brands, design firms, or modern fitness concepts—each of these projects showcases the versatility of Wall Rapture’s mineral surfaces. From trade show booths and retail interiors to furniture, offices, and showrooms, our surfaces combine authentic material aesthetics with fast, clean, and cost-effective installation. The result is spaces around the world that impress with their character, quality, and the genuine feel of the materials.
A selection of designs

Authentic material texture without compromise
Authentic materials thrive on their individuality. Just like natural stone, exposed concrete, or weathered steel, no two surfaces in the Wall Rapture collection are alike. Small pits, fine textures, varying shades, or subtle trowel marks are not flaws, but rather expressions of genuine craftsmanship, giving each panel its own distinctive character.
While industrially printed designs often appear sterile and repetitive, mineral surfaces create vibrant wall scenes that change with every shift in light. The natural texture produces subtle shadows, varied light reflections, and a tangible sense of depth, making the room appear more refined and authentic.
It is precisely this material aesthetic that makes all the difference. It appeals not only to the eye but also to the sense of touch. Visitors intuitively touch the surface because they immediately recognize that it is not printed wallpaper or a plastic surface. It is the interplay of visual appeal, tactile sensation, and natural texture that creates the atmosphere that defines modern architecture today.
With Wall Rapture, the result is not standardized wall surfaces, but rather unique surfaces with character—reproducible for international projects, yet each strip is a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted piece.
Build faster, renovate cleanly—without compromising on design
In addition to their authentic material appearance, modern mineral wall cladding stands out above all for its cost-effective installation. Especially in commercial construction today, it’s no longer just the end result that counts, but also the process of getting there. Construction timelines are getting shorter, projects often have to be carried out while operations continue, and downtime results in significant costs.
In many cases, traditional troweling techniques or solid concrete solutions involve extensive preparatory work, long drying times, sanding, and significant dust generation. Added to this are material waste and dependence on the experience of the applicator. As a result, the desired surface finish can often only be achieved after a great deal of time and effort.
Flexible mineral wall cladding takes a different approach. The surface is manufactured in the factory and then installed like high-quality wall covering. This eliminates much of the traditional on-site work. There is no need to pour concrete, apply multiple layers of joint compound, or install heavy panels.
This offers numerous advantages for designers, contractors, and building owners:
- significantly shorter installation times
- virtually dust-free application
- No drying periods lasting several days
- lightweight without adding extra static load
- Easy to apply on suitable surfaces
- Clean renovations, even while operations are ongoing
This results in significant time and cost savings, particularly in hotels, offices, restaurants, retail spaces, and public buildings. Rooms can be put back into use more quickly, while at the same time preserving the high-quality appearance of a genuine mineral surface.
Material Aesthetics for Modern Architecture
Today, architecture is no longer defined solely by form, but primarily by materials. The most exciting spatial concepts arise from the deliberate interplay of different surfaces. Smooth materials meet rough textures, warm natural materials meet cool concrete, and metallic accents meet soft fabrics.
In recent years, concrete in particular has become one of the most defining design elements of modern interior architecture. Its calm, understated aesthetic provides the perfect foundation for a wide variety of design concepts—from minimalist homes to luxurious boutique hotels and innovative corporate headquarters.
Concrete pairs exceptionally well with materials such as:
- Oak and other natural woods
- Glass and large windows
- Black steel and brushed metal
- Brass and Copper
- Natural Stone
- Linen and other warm textiles
- indirect architectural lighting
- Plants and organic materials
It is precisely these combinations that give modern spaces their unique atmosphere. Wall Rapture’s mineral wall coverings blend seamlessly into this design concept, creating high-quality surfaces with an authentic material look. Thanks to their flexibility, not only walls but also furniture, doors, counters, and ceilings can be incorporated into the same design language. This results in holistic interior concepts in which architecture and materials form a harmonious whole.
Thinking More Sustainably – Preserving What We Have Instead of Building New Things
Sustainability doesn’t begin with the selection of a material. It begins with the question of whether existing buildings can be preserved and intelligently upgraded. As a result, more and more renovation and modernization projects are taking place not on greenfield sites, but in the existing building stock.
Instead of completely tearing down functional walls or installing heavy concrete slabs, many suitable surfaces can be redesigned using mineral wall coverings. Existing surfaces take on a completely new look without the need for extensive demolition work.
This not only reduces construction waste and material consumption, but also saves time, energy, and transportation costs. The lightweight nature of the surfaces further simplifies logistics and installation. This offers significant advantages over traditional building materials, particularly in international projects or complex interior fit-outs. Our product has already been used multiple times in DGNB certifications, achieving Gold status.
This flexibility also pays off throughout a building’s entire life cycle. Individual panels can be replaced as needed in the event of damage, without having to replace entire wall surfaces. At the same time, the durable mineral surface allows for a timeless design that retains its appeal even after many years.
Modern wall design not only combines exceptional design with the authentic aesthetic of natural materials, but also contributes to more resource-efficient and cost-effective interior construction. It is precisely this combination of sustainability, flexibility, and high-quality architecture that makes mineral wall cladding a forward-looking solution for modern residential and commercial projects.
Wall Rapture – Where Material Aesthetics Meet Innovation
The idea behind Wall Rapture arose from a simple question: Why should the striking effect of real materials always be associated with heavy building materials, labor-intensive spackling, and long construction times?
Our response was to rethink materials.
Since our founding, we have been developing handcrafted mineral and metallic surfaces that combine the authenticity of concrete, rust, and textured trowel techniques with the advantages of modern manufacturing processes. The result is flexible wall cladding that not only looks like real material but also allows you to authentically experience its character, texture, and sense of depth.
We don’t see ourselves as a manufacturer of traditional wall coverings, but rather as a development partner for architects, interior designers, designers, and brands that want to create extraordinary spaces. Whether it’s exclusive residential homes, international retail projects, hotels, offices, furniture, or trade show booths—our surfaces open up new design possibilities without the typical limitations of traditional building materials.
Each panel is carefully handcrafted at our workshop in Germany. In this way, we combine the individuality of a one-of-a-kind piece with the consistent quality demanded by today’s international architecture and brand projects. This makes Wall Rapture a solution that uniquely combines design, craftsmanship, and cost-effectiveness.
The future of mineral wall design begins today
Architecture is constantly evolving. Today, spaces are expected not only to be aesthetically pleasing, but also to be designed with sustainability in mind, built cost-effectively, and used over the long term. Materials must be versatile, simplify construction processes, and at the same time create an authentic atmosphere.
This is exactly where Wall Rapture comes in.
Our mineral wall cladding combines the natural beauty of genuine materials with the demands of modern architecture. It offers a high-quality material aesthetic without the need for heavy concrete slabs, labor-intensive skimming, or long drying times. Instead, it creates surfaces that can be installed more quickly, conserve resources, and at the same time preserve the character of genuine materials.
The result isn’t just ordinary walls, but spaces with personality. Spaces that move people, bring brands to life, and give architecture a distinctive identity.
Wall Rapture represents the next generation of mineral surfaces, developed for architects, design enthusiasts, and interior designers who want to bring materials to life rather than simply imitate them.
